Is Instinct AI down?
This page records publicly reported history. It does not reflect the current state of the service — we make no real-time claims of any kind, in either direction.
Why this page exists
Instinct operates an invite-only beta and does not maintain a public status page — that fact comes from dated press coverage, and it is the reason this page exists. When the service has wobbled, the press observed that the founder’s X mentions were “the closest thing to an outage tracker” Instinct had.
We cannot probe the service, so we do the one useful thing that requires no probing: keep a dated, source-linked record of what has publicly happened. Every entry names its source and its date. If it is not public and dated, it does not get an entry.
You may have seen third-party “status” pages for Instinct. Those count user reports and print statuses like “operational.” That is a different product from this page: we record verifiable history; we do not estimate the present.
The record
Newest first. Every entry carries its date, its user-side evidence in the speakers’ own words, the official response status, and its source.
Reports of a silent failure reach the press
What happened: TheStreet (syndicated via Yahoo Finance) reported that Instinct had stopped responding for many users, under the headline “‘Hello are you frozen’: users say viral AI assistant Instinct is ghosting its users.” The report’s own summary of the information vacuum was its subtitle: “No status page, no statement.” Its opening line puts the start half a day earlier than the dateline: users had “spent Monday night and Tuesday morning” asking the founder on X whether the service was down — Monday was September 21.
“Is instinct currently down? Mine stopped working” — Jason Sobin, asking founder Noah Shinn on X on Tuesday morning — the first user quoted in the report
“My instinct agent is broken pls help” — James Gui, posting in the founder’s X mentions — with a screenshot of the sequence “what’s taking so long bro” → “/reset” → “hello are you frozen”, every message marked read, none answered
“I asked it to remind me something at 9am. It failed.” — Riya Agarwal, in the same report — evidence the failures reached scheduled tasks, not just chat
“It stopped replying around 11 last night, mid-task. It was supposed to send two emails for me and confirm a dentist appointment… Deleted the app, reinstalled, logged back in, nothing. The messages all show as read, which is honestly worse than an error message. The whole reason I use this thing is that I stopped keeping my own calendar because it just handled it. So now I genuinely don’t know what got sent and what didn’t.” — John Harper, quoted by TheStreet
Official response: TheStreet says it contacted Instinct’s communications team and Noah Shinn for comment; no public response appears in the article. The report also notes the founder’s most recent post at the time — Sept 18 — announced a new feature, shareable Files. We record that as what the report documented, without interpreting it.

The same failure, reported for eleven straight days
What happened: A thread on r/AI_Agents (post 1wn3qm3) opened around Sept 22 titled “Instinct Beta: Agent stuck and unresponsive for 24+ hours,” and replies reporting the same symptoms arrived every single day from Sept 23 through Oct 2 — the day before we read the thread. This was not a one-day event: users were still reporting the same failure at the end of the window, while some had recovered partway through. The reports describe two distinct failure modes: A — frozen silent (messages read, nothing acted on), and B — account actions paused (the agent itself, locked).
“my agent has completely stopped responding. It’s been stuck since yesterday morning… Sent multiple abort commands in iMessage (CANCEL ALL, /restart, ABORT, CLEAR CONTEXT). The messages are marked as read, but the agent ignores them.” — u/Pale-Luck-163, the original poster — mode A, plus the full failed self-rescue list
“it keeps telling me it has to wait for clearance and “account actions are still paused”… one day I was using it and it was doing cool things and the next it just stopped” — u/sarrisa, 11 days into the thread — mode B: not frozen, locked
“When I emailed them just minutes ago, I got a Delivery Status Notification (Failure) from Google Groups’ Mail Delivery Subsystem.” — u/hellz__bellz — the official support channel itself bounced, for at least one user
“I emailed support but haven’t heard back. Really desperate here as I had it doing a bunch of things that I now have zero access to.” — u/Whole_War7234 — no reply, and locked out of work the agent was holding
“Mine is also completely dead… giving me a red receipt on everything but not replying to anything… I also sent an email to Noah Shinn’s personal email address… but have not heard anything back.” — u/AgelessUnit — red receipts on everything; even the founder’s personal email tried, no reply reported
Multiple users across the thread reported receiving the same automated message from Instinct:
“I couldn’t finish responding to your last message. Some actions may already have completed. Please check their status before repeating any action.” — the automated message multiple users reported receiving
One community workaround surfaced — have an already-invited friend submit a support ticket for you from their own account. We quote both halves of the evidence, because this page’s only asset is not filtering:
“Try having someone you already invited to Instinct submit a support ticket for you from their phone… About an hour later I started getting a flurry of responses from Instinct that I had missed.” — u/Frosty-Broccoli93, Oct 1 — reporting the same issue earlier that day and a resolution within hours · worked
“This did not work for me.” — u/F0X04 · did not
“still not responding, where can we go ask for help??” — u/MUSEWAV · did not
“instinct said it won’t respond on someone else’s account.” — u/hdjdndnbd · did not
Official response: No statement from Instinct appears in the thread as of Oct 2. The only Instinct-authored text users reported receiving is the automated message quoted above — a status notice, not an explanation.

What the absence of a status page means
During the September 2026 event, the press noted that users’ only channel for answers was the founder’s mentions — “the closest thing to an outage tracker,” in the report’s words. An official seat that stays empty gets filled by whatever shows up: forum threads, screenshots, and speculation.
Third-party monitor pages count user reports rather than probing the service, so their “no issues detected” can coexist with a service that is failing quietly. That is exactly the Sept 22 failure mode — read receipts with nothing sent, reminders that never fired, no error anywhere — which report-counters are structurally slow to catch. (That sentence is our analysis; the failure pattern is sourced above.)
The practical consequence doesn’t require any prediction: don’t make Instinct the only delivery channel for anything time-sensitive. The full reasoning — including why that rule exists — is in the who-should-wait section of our safety page. Who should wait →
How to check for yourself
1 — The founder’s X account and Instinct’s official social channels
Currently the fastest official outlets, because no status page exists. During the September event, this is where users went.
2 — The official support channel
Slow — and during the September window, at least one user’s email to it bounced outright while others reported no reply. Still: it creates a written trail a social feed does not.
3 — Send a minimal test task
“Reply OK to this thread” is the cheapest live probe you own. If it hangs or shows read-with-no-action, treat the service as questionable for the day and take time-sensitive work back manually.
4 — The community workaround, with both halves of the evidence
Having an already-invited friend file a support ticket from their account worked for at least one user — and failed for at least three others. The paired quotes live in the record above; treat it as an option, never a promise.
These are the things you can do — none of them is guaranteed to tell you the truth at a given moment. We list them because a real status page would make all of them unnecessary, and there isn’t one.
Frequently asked questions
What outages has Instinct AI had?
The publicly reported record so far is a failure period, not a single day: the first press coverage ran on September 22, 2026 — its opening line says users had spent Monday night (September 21) and Tuesday morning chasing answers — and the same symptoms were still being reported in a community thread on October 2. Eleven days, with some users recovering partway through and others still stuck. No official public statement was recorded as of the September 22 report.
Why doesn’t this page show live status?
Because we have no probing capability, and asserting a live status without data would be fabrication — a status claim we cannot stand behind is worse than no claim at all. We record dated, sourced history: the part a report-counting template cannot do, and the part that stays useful after every new incident.
Is there an official Instinct AI status page?
No — as of October 2026, and per press coverage from September 22, the service runs invite-only without a public status page. Until one exists, the founder’s X account and official social channels are the only official outlets.
